Source: With US democracy under threat from within, AUKUS puts Australia in danger – Pearls and Irritations
I took a quick look at this at Pearls and Irritations, but it’s not very informative about the writer. It just says that she has degrees from a couple of universities, but not what faculty the degrees come from… and I like to know what expertise a writer has to comment on issues like this.

You are correct, Lisa: there isn’t much information about the writer. And usually I would look, for like you I do like to have some idea of the expertise of the writer. This time, though, I shared the link because I think some of what she says bears thinking about. I don’t agree (yet, anyway) with the conclusion but I am concerned about some of the shifts within the USA. Availability of abortion in Texas is the first thing to come to mind, but there are other changes that have me worried about the US democracy. And in the UK, Boris seems to exemplify opportunism and populism. So I worry, a bit.

I share your anxiety… but (this certainly isn’t a criticism of you sharing the article) there is something about her tone which seems less measured than Menadue’s articles, which was why I looked to see who the author was, and then what her credentials were.
I really like Menadue’s stuff!

One day, I look forward to an in person discussion over coffee. I am determined to visit Melbourne. And perhaps, by then, we will be differently anxious 😉
