‘Everything was as it should be, with the exception that nothing was right.’
It may come as a shock to some of you, but I appear to be the last person within my circle of reading friends to venture into Discworld. Why is it so? Well, my best guess is that I was busy combining parenting and full-time work back in 1983 and I’ve somehow never really caught up. Excuses. Anyway, my friends suggested I start my Discworld journey with ‘Wyrd Sisters’ and I did.
I find that I know of Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg (clearly by osmosis) and quickly became immersed in their adventures and the clever wordplay which is apparently such an important part of Discworld.
‘I know you didn’t do it. I wasn’t there with you, you may recall.’
I am amused and bemused, and clearly will need to explore further. I will never be able to read Macbeth quite the same way again, with apologies to Shakespeare.
So, which book do you think I should read next?
