The Conference of the Birds (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children #5) by Ransom Riggs

‘Everyone’s calling the peace talks the Conference of the Birds.’

I really enjoyed the first two books in the series.  The third book was okay, but I was disappointed in the fourth book in the series.  So why did I pick up the fifth book?  I’m really not sure.

Books four and five take the series into the ‘new’ world of American peculiars, and I don’t find that adventure as interesting.  While I continue to admire Mr Riggs’s ability to weave stories around old photographs, these particular stories did not hold my interest.  By widening the scope, I think much of the compelling urgency and the uniqueness  of the original story is lost.  And peculiar has become mundane.

And yes, I realise that I’m probably fifty years older than the target audience but well written fantasy has always appealed.  I’d recommend the first three books, but I think this series should have ended there.
