I do a lot of reading. Some of the books I read are review books I’ve been offered or have selected. Some of what I read are books suggested by friends. Sometimes I select books from the library, or from browsing in a bookshop. I suspect that I’ll need to live for about 200 years to do all of the reading I’ve identified.
For the past couple of years, I’ve been participating in the Australian Women Writers Challenge and deliberately seeking out books by Australian Women Writers. I’ve joined up again this year, and am frequently discovering new (to me) authors or rediscovering some of the classics I read as a child. So far this year, my reading has included books by Alison Alexander, Deborah Adelaide, Emily Bitto, Christina Stead, LJM Owen, Carol Baxter, Jo Wiles, Rosalie Ham, Eleanor Limprecht, Justine Larbalestier, Charlotte Wood, Tamsin Harvey (I really need to find time to make one of the wonderful quilts in Tamsin’s book),Amanda Ortlepp and Alice Robinson.
I have a long list of books to read during the rest of the year. I’m not exclusively reading Australian women authors, but they are a significant part of my planned reading.
